Jackson, a small town in Wyoming's Jackson Hole Valley, is one of the state's most popular tourist destinations with multiple resorts and recreation areas. Many people confuse Jackson with Jackson Hole, but Jackson is the town and Jackson Hole is the valley in which the town and other attractions are located.
For many years, the area now known as Jackson was inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Shoshoni, Gros Ventre, Bannock, Crow, and Blackfeet. Trappers started traveling through the land in the early 19th century, including an explorer who traveled with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The name of the valley comes from David Edward Jackson, a pioneer, fur trader, explorer, and trapper who spent a winter on Jackson Lake's shores.
Some of the town's early structures still stand in the town square area. In 1920, the town's residents elected the first all-female city government. The majority of the town's land is owned or managed by the federal or state government.
Jackson is a premier tourist destination for people located across the globe. Thousands of tourists visit annually to ski at the major resorts, which include Jackson Hole Mountain, Grand Targhee, and Snow King Mountain. The town also offers access to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, drawing visitors throughout the changing seasons. More than a decade ago, Jackson was designated as a Preserve America Community, which recognizes the residents' use of historic assets for economic development and protection of its heritage.
As one of the top destinations for outdoor enthusiasts, Jackson is a town that's certainly worth seeing.
In Jackson, WY, residents appreciate the stunning natural scenery, with easy access to outdoor activities like skiing and hiking in the nearby national parks. Many enjoy the vibrant arts scene and local events, which add a cultural touch to daily life. However, high rental prices and limited housing options are common concerns, making it difficult for some people to find affordable living arrangements. Despite the challenges, the active lifestyle and picturesque environment make Jackson a desired location for many renters.
Jackson's rental market is relatively small, with a limited number of listings available. On average, only 2 listings are available per month. The market is evenly split between 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom apartments, each accounting for 33% of the total market. Studios are not typically available.
In terms of amenities, in-unit laundry is a common feature, found in a significant number of apartments elsewhere in the data, but not in Jackson's available listings. However, the data suggests that many apartments in the broader market have amenities like air conditioning and dishwashers. Renters in Jackson will need to be flexible with their expectations and act quickly when a suitable apartment becomes available. Keep in mind that these figures are based on historical data, but they should give you a sense of what to expect in the current market.
