My family moved here 2 1/2 years ago, from NJ and not knowing anyone. Landmark has made us feel so welcome, so to tell you we love where we live, great location walk to dinner, shows, events. The people are amazing, owners are wonderful. Any and all whom are affiliated with Landmark go above and beyond to make sure ALL the tenants and fur babies are taken care of.

My wife and I are really enjoying the Landmark. It’s within walking distance to the downtown area, the other tenants are terrific and they are dog friendly. All three were important to us when we moved to La Crosse.

Consider reading before moving to Landmark. The main issues with living here stem from the impractical building layout: 1) Building Layout: By far the biggest issue. The building is a former factory and was never designed for residential housing. It is obvious that the building codes were restrictive for the remodel, leaving a large common area with small, long and skinny apartments. The common area is filled with couches and restrooms that don’t serve much purpose and would have been better utilized as apartment space. Instead, the apartments are long, with limited windows and without balconies. A large portion of the square footage the tenants pay for is in a dark and skinny hallway. 2) Lack of windows: It is likely your bedroom won’t have a window and the wall doesn’t go to the ceiling so it’s rather one large studio apartment. Again, terrible apartment layout. 3) Get ready to walk and unlock doors. From your car, you’ll walk about 100 yards and open 3 to 4 locked doors to get into the apartment. It makes getting groceries and taking the dog out a chore, not to mention moving stuff in and out of the apartment. 4) Locking System: The building is very secure. You’ll unlock 2-4 doors to get into the apartment depending on the entrance you use. The apartment door automatically locks similar to a hotel. For example, if you take out the trash and happen to forget your key when the office isn’t open, you’ll have to borrow a phone to call a help line through an outside company and wait an hour to pay a $60 fee to have them unlock your door. 5) Noise: It’s not an inherently noisy place and most of the residents are polite. Because of the large open common area, hard concrete flooring, and thin walls you'll hear echoes of your neighbors and their dogs throughout the apartment. 6) Spiders: On the windows, not in the apartment. They might become your best friend as you inevitably gaze at them through your only window. 7) Affordability: Overpriced largely from the fact that so much of the square footage you are paying for goes toward the hallway. Perks: Coffee maker, dog park, & proximity to river. The appeal of loft living is ruined by multiple problems stemming from poor apartment design. The amount of locked doors and lack of windows make it feel more like a prison than a home. This renovated building never should have been transformed into apartments. There are no inherent “red flags”, but hopefully you find better and more affordable alternatives in La Crosse.
