3550 Shelbourne St (Please do not remove, as I am only acting on behalf on the rights of the tenant--they have the right to know what they're getting themselves into) This is not a rental posting, this is a tenant beware ad. This house is not suitable for occupancy and is known campus wide as the "crackshack". Do not rent this house, as it is posted somewhere within the craigslist classifieds. We made the mistake of renting out this affordable duplex and it caused numerous headaches...both literal and metaphorically. I will give you the exact timeline in which events will occur: September-December: -In the warmer months the house will appear seemingly appropriate for both healthy and liveable student lives -The windows will begin to fog and condensation will develop on the windows, filling the windows slides. -As a result of the condensate, the humidity will gradually increase within the house, providing suitable conditions for both mold growth and wet clothing/bedding. Be sure to note the mold that grows in the 1st floor room facing the backyard, as well as the bathroom. We deemed the mold the "black death" and looked in no way healthy... -Now if you can get past the mold and the wet blankets, the mouse problem may help your decision not to rent this house. If you look under the 1st floor kitchen sink, just to the left there is a hole perfectly shaped to house mice...which is right beside where all food will be kept. -Unfortunetly the list doesn't end there...during the day the problem may not seem as evident, but if you're like me and are often up late at night the silverfish infestation is almost impressive. I'm not stranger to silverfish and have seen many in my life, but the size and quantity of these insects is almost somewhat impressive. January-April -All of the above is still an ever growing issue -However, once warmer months begin the MASSIVE ant problem is almost unbearable. The problem occurs primarily in the two bedrooms 1st and basement that look out on the backyard. Personally, I had a vacuum cleaner solely dedicated to my room in order to vacuum ants up every few hours. The worst part was waking up with ants on you. It was not uncommon to wake up with silverfish/ants/or even spiders (though they were less common) in your bed, clothes, or blankets. It got to the point where I couldn't even study in my room because ants would continually crawl up your legs.
