I lived in the Maytown School Suites for one year. The apartment is nice and very spacious for the price however there were some issues. 1. There was a mildew odor in the apartment. When I first toured the apartments, I was told the smell would be taken care of before I moved in. It was not. The odor was mold coming from the HVAC unit in the apartment. To do something about it I had to file a maintenance request. For my first maintenance request to fix the issue air fresheners were put on the vents. This did not fix the issue. On my second maintenance request a technician came to the apartment and determined that a UV light needed to be installed to kill the mold as air was flowing through the system. This meant the unit had to be continuously running to reduce the mold smell. While the UV light did help the smell did not go away completely. After the UV light was installed I later learned that there was another apartment with the same issue that also had a UV light installed, prior to me moving in. Which led me to think why wasn’t this done before I moved in and why did it take to requests to handle the issue. 2. Whenever it snowed during my year at the school suites the complex was never plowed or salted and as per the lease snow removal was to be done by the landlord. I was told that unless it was over 3 inches a company doesn’t comes out. When I lived there it was less than 3 inches of snow, but there was still a lot of ice. The entire back entrance of the complex was covered in ice for weeks even after it snowed because no one came to put salt down. Every time I had to leave I could not use the rear exit because I was worried I would slip and get injured. It wasn’t until maintenance came for something unrelated and realized the ice that salt was put down. And afterwards I was told if the ice was an issue I should submit a maintenance request to have it removed….. 3. Cleanliness of the property. Whenever the grass was cut, grass would end up in the foyer and in the hallways. As well as just general upkeep it did not appear that anything was being done. Spider webs would cover the keypad required for entry for weeks. 4. My security deposit. According to my lease my security deposit was to be released within 30 days of leaving the property. It has been almost 6 months as of this writing and I have still not received my security deposit. Communication with the landlord is stagnant. Some times I will not get a reply for days and sometimes weeks. My security deposit check was supposed to finally be sent out a month ago but I still have not received anything. I tried to reach out to the property manager again, but I haven’t heard anything back. Overall the property is okay, but I would rather live somewhere with better management and less issues.
